At 8:02pm, SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft will be launching 4 Civilians into a 575km Orbit above the Earth, higher than the ISS and Hubble Space Telescope. The 5-hour launch window opens at 8:02pm EDT from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and the crew will stay in orbit for 3 days before returning just off the coast of Florida. SpaceX's live webcast for the launch will start at 4pm EDT.
Inspiration4 is being commanded and was organized by Jared Issacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments. Joining him on this mission are:
Hayley Arceneaux (Medical Officer), a pediatric cancer survivor and physician assistant at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Dr. Sian Proctor (Mission Pilot), a trained pilot and geoscientist, previously applied to be a NASA Astronaut
Chris Sembroski (Mission Specialist), an aerospace data engineer and air force veteran
One of the biggest objectives for the Inspiration4 mission is to raise $200m for St. Jude and spread awareness of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. During the SpaceX webcast you can donate to St. Jude or you can click here to donate on St. Jude's website. Alongside that, the crew will be performing various scientific experiments that will help gather data on widening the criteria for who can go into space and advance human health on earth or long-duration missions. This mission will be the furthest humans have traveled since the Hubble missions done by the Space Shuttle.
